Whimsical & hand-crafted confectionery.

Carpenter & King is a pop-up stall/online concept by Sherry & Janan, specializing in bringing aesthetically interesting confectionery for events & more. Working as a primary school teacher, Sherry felt the need to bake & create small treats for her students; most of which do not come from a privileged background. The popularity of her bakes were apparent as orders started pouring in for her delicious confections, leading her to start Carpenter & King, in order to share her passion of creating visually stunning goods to share with consumers.

Pop-Up Stalls
Carpenter & King currently operates as an online confectionery, though they have started to branch out to pop-up stalls for various events & art markets. Mostly recently, they participated in MAAD, a night market located at the Red Dot Museum & you can find them next at the Makers’ Market @ 313 Somerset on 30th August 2015.

Food
The whole concept of Carpenter & King revolves around the idea of creating whimsical & visually pleasing confections for the mass market. While they are still a continuous phase of R&D, they have already created a number of eye-catching sweets, such as their Chocolate Pyramids & their Meringue Pops that have been dubbed as “Unicorn Extract”. These desserts serve to enhance any event you may have, be it birthdays, weddings or party celebrations!

Price
Prices for Carpenter & King’s creations are surprisingly geared towards the lower point average. One chocolate pyramid goes for about $1, while a cup of delicious Unicorn Extract is at a mere 4 bucks. It’s actually really refreshing to see gourmet confections like these at such an affordable rate. Definitely great gifts for your friends, family, significant other or for your lonesome self. (That’s me! Now where’s that Forever Alone meme?)

Apart from all the colourful confections created by Sherry, Carpenter & King also offers specialty coffee at their pop-up stalls, brewed by none other than Janan himself.

Red Velvet Marshmallow Cookies These delectable cookies were given away for free at their MAAD pop-up stall when you give their Instagram page a like. What fascinated me about these cookies was the inclusion of marshmallows. Never have I had a cookie that had marshmallows in lieu of chocolate chips. (S'Mores do not count.) Nonetheless, these were ah-mah-zing.

Chocolate Pyramids ($6 for half a dozen) Essentially the pièce de résistance of Carpenter & King, these chocolate pyramids were the draw of the crowd. Painstakingly hand-crafted white chocolate with a different array of added flavour such as Matcha or Watermelon. Not only that, each pyramid have a fantastic crunch in the center with the inclusion of nuts & other crunchy surprises pertaining to each flavoured pyramid. Definite must-try!

Chocolate Barks ($4 for 100gm) Not only do they offer chocolate pyramids, but they also have them in slab form! These are slightly different from the pyramids & consists of different childhood treats in each slab like Pocky or rainbow sprinkles. I reckon that these would make fantastic treats for young ones.

Unicorn Extract ($4 a cup) What I liked about these meringue kisses is that they are an easy-to-eat version of the whipped egg white dessert. (The other one I always come across is the huge-ass version at Gastronomia. Ain't no body got a mouth for that.)

In-Depth Review
Aren’t those just some awesome whimsical confections? Dying to find out how they taste? Well, just have a look below & imagine to your heart’s content! (Or stomach.)

Carpenter & King's chocolate pyramids come in an assortment of different flavours, ranging from Matcha, Watermelon, Almond & Caramel, Lemon & Poppy Seeds, Lavender & Earl Grey to Pistachio & Rose. These chocolate pyramids were to die-for. The chocolate was quite light & the flavours were deliciously subtle. Each pyramid also have an added crunch on the inside which add a new dimension the texture of the chocolate.

While there will be some who find that the chocolate isn't as rich or dense as something like ROYCE' Chocolate, I found the light subtlety of each pyramid to be quite divine. (You can basically eat a 100 of these without feeling bloated. And by "you", I really mean me, myself & I.) The aesthetic of each pyramid is quite fantastic as well, with contrasting colours that represent the different flavours. The two tier coloured pyramids has the most whimsy.

And then there were chocolate barks. Among the flavours of the barks were Matcha & Pistachio, Chocobanana and Cookies & Cream. The chocolate of the chocolate barks have the same texture as the pyramids themselves. There is definitely a "fun" factor to these chocolate barks, in both their taste & aesthetic, which will work wonders for little children. My favourite flavour was the Cookies & Cream; the chocolate pretty much melts in your mouth.

Unicorn Extract! Basically a rainnow of little meringue kisses in a cup!

The meringue kisses also come with a varying assortment of fruit flavours, including berries, lemon & orange. These bite-size meringues also melt into your mouth; just pop one into your mouth & you're good to go.

Worth A Try?
The relatively new Carpenter & King doesn’t seem to be losing steam in its journey ahead becoming a great whimsical confectionery brand in Singapore. I really like underdogs like these that give their utmost passion & dedication to their craft; something that seems to be lost in the trend wave of generic cafes/bakeries in Singapore. Their aesthetically stunning creations definitely left a lasting impression on me with their whimsy that are kind of out-of-this-world. (The crowd at MAAD seem to think so as well.) Do stay tuned to their Instagram page for updates on their next pop-up or if you’re looking to order some delectable yet visually eye-catching goodies for your event! I do wish Janan & Sherry luck in their business & perhaps one day, Carpenter & King will be able to open their very own physical store as well!

A huge thanks to both Janan & Sherry for the invitation to MAAD and for their generosity!
