“Life is like a bowl of ice-cream.”
The Cold Pantry is part of the ever-growing range of cafes along Rangoon Road. The place specializes in soft serve ice-cream, frozen yogurt & delectable waffle treats. The Cold Pantry actually took over the old space of Liberty Coffee & it’s situated right beside Jewel Cafe & Bar.

Knick, knacks & more.
The interior decor & design of The Cold Pantry is pretty standard for your typical ice-cream parlour/froyo shop. The entire place is littered with decor & filled with a mix of modern furniture that makes the whole pantry quite homely. It’s quite quiet & relaxing to spend your afternoon away.
Some desserts on display.
The menu of The Cold Pantry.
What sets The Cold Pantry apart from all the other soft serve & froyo places is that they offer extremely unique flavours for their frozen desserts. These include Charcoal Vanilla, Matcha & Thai Iced Tea. You have the options of going for a fixed set of toppings with these delicious soft serve/froyo or choose to go with their range of waffles. Apart from their soft serve/froyo, The Cold Pantry also offers a few other sweet treats that are displayed near the counter.
Unfortunately, their Matcha soft serve was unavailable that day, including all their froyo.
Prices here are fairly standard, waffles & ice-cream can go for about 10 bucks, while just the ice-cream itself with fixed toppings goes for about $6.50. The establishment is casual enough that it doesn’t charge GST or service fees either.
Thai Iced Milk Tea Ice-cream Float ($6.50)
A friend of mine was feeling parched, and decided to order this. She basically fell in love with it; it was that good.
One fantastic thing about their iced tea is that it comes in a bottle, so you can top up your own drink with the reminder when the deliciousness is diminishing.
Chocolate Root Beer Waffles ($12.50)
With Charcoal Vanilla Ice-cream & Homemade Root Beer Sauce
This was THE thing that I wanted to try when I visited The Cold Pantry. It was filling up my Instagram feed & I couldn’t look away. Root. Beer. Waffles. WHUT. Charcoal. Vanilla. Ice-cream. DOUBLE WHUT.
All in all, the charcoal vanilla ice-cream was pretty “ah-mah-zing”, both in aesthetic & taste. The chocolate root beer waffles were pretty great as well, it had a nice subtle flavour of root beer & was more “cakey” in texture. The cookie base for the soft serve was a nice touch.
Cha Yen ($6.50)
Seasalt Caramel Waffle ($8)
Another friend of mine wanted to get the “Cha Yen”, which was one of the prefixed topping selections of Thai Iced Milk Tea soft serve, Handmade Honeycomb Crumbles, Nata De Coco & Rice Crispies. Desperate for a photo-op, I offered to top-up her order with a waffle, hence this was born.
The Thai Iced Milk Tea soft serve was as amazing as the Charcoal Vanilla counterpart. My friends quite liked the entire dessert as well. One thing’s for sure, it makes for fantastic food photography.
Thin & Crispy Waffle ($6)
Additional Soft Serve ($4.50 each)
Yes, I’m the epitome of Such A Fatty. I wasn’t satisfied from the desserts we already had & I just HAD to have more soft serve ice-cream. (I do love me some ice-cream.) After spotting their thin & crispy waffles on Instagram, I decided to order it next. Interestingly enough, I actually liked the thin waffle better than the previous two after eating it. (Then again, my fondness for waffles in general has been wavering for a long time.)
Being my typical self, I decided to request if they could put TWO soft serves on the waffle itself. It was probably the first time someone requested something like this & the staff was taken aback for a moment but decided to give it a try nonetheless. Kudos to them for that! They were very accommodating & actually managed to fit two towering soft serves on the thin waffle! Fantastic really. (If the Matcha flavour was available, I would have probably asked to fit all three onto one.)
So it is.
Worth A Visit/Revisit?
I do love me some soft serve ice-cream & the ones at The Cold Pantry were pretty fantastic. While their flavours are quite limited, they are unique which make them pretty refreshing for soft serve/froyo. Overall, I really like their concept & wouldn’t mind heading back again for that delectable black charcoal soft serve.
