“The home of original handmade goods.”
FIX is a fairly new alfresco poolside cafe that is situated in the HomeTeamNS-JOM Clubhouse that has already garnered quite a popularity. The cafe was started by the same people behind GRUB, offering homemade food such as desserts, drinks & the occasional savoury dish. FIX also offers naanwiches, one of their most unique offerings. You’ll be happy to know that FIX has also been recently Halal certified.
“Inside” the cafe.
The industrial-like decor.
Pans, whisks & license plates?
The whole look of FIX seems to be inspired by a garage/workshop. Kitchenware & tools work together in harmony for the decor. The whole place is quite industrial-like as well, with metal poles used for the backing of their booth seats, something normally seen in construction sites. It’s quite ironic to note that the cafe is considered to be alfresco dining, even though it’s mostly situated inside a building, however the entire place is open air; no air conditioning here. FIX is also right beside the swimming pool of the clubhouse, a great chill-out spot for the afternoon.
One thing that bugged me about FIX was that they had a “Free Seating” system. First off, there wasn’t a clear “main” entrance to FIX, there were a few ways that you can enter the place, which could make certain people confused. Secondly, people are like a flock of sheep, they usually NEED to be directed to go/wait somewhere. Hence, what you end up with is a bunch of people waiting around the cafe, blocking walkways, standing in front of your table & staring at you while they wait for a table to free up. (One of the most annoying things on Earth. Though I must admit, there are times when I am guilty of this. Oh, the hypocrisy!) Of course, there is no service charge here, so I guess you can’t have it both ways.
Handmade desserts galore!
The main attractions of FIX would definitely have to be their desserts & naanwiches. I’ve actually never seen a naanwich before until I visited FIX. I was also attracted to FIX because of their desserts, which were highly popular on Instagram. The key thing to note here is that most of their food here are HANDMADE. (No supplier garbage here! Alright… that’s kinda harsh, it’s not so bad usually.) Their menu isn’t really as extensive though, with a few varying mains aside from their naanwiches. They also have a few starters & homemade drinks. (Though I think “Mexican Coca Cola” shouldn’t be under that title.)
Prices for FIX are one of the lowest I’ve come across for a cafe so far as well. No GST or service charges here! An extremely happy tune to sing to your wallet. Oh joy.
Chocolate, Peanut Butter & Banana Milkshake ($7)
Butterscotch & Toasted Coconut Milkshake ($7)
For everything else that’s pretty affordable, their milkshakes seem to be on the other end of the spectrum. Of course, I couldn’t pass up a BUTTERSCOTCH milkshake. It sounded like an orgasm in a cup. (Sorry, too graphic?)
Anyway, both my friend and I really loved our milkshakes. They tasted fantastic & well worth the 7 bucks. I like how unique their flavors are as well, not your usual Vanilla, Strawberry & Choc. (Yawn.)
“My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard.”
Crispy Soy Chicken Drumlets ($7)
I’ve constantly seen people recommending this & hence I planned on trying it as well.
Verdict? Four Fingers can MOVE OVER. If you’re a fan of the Soy Garlic chicken over at Four Fingers, FIX’s drumlets will basically blow your mind. It’s THAT good, you’ll never EVER want to go back to Four Fingers again after trying this. These are much much better.
Chicken Tikka Naanwich ($10)
One of their most unique naanwich is their Beef & Kimchi Naanwich. However, I’m not a big fan of kimchi & my friend wasn’t a fan of Korean food, so we decided to settle for this.
My friend ate most of this & commented that it was to his liking. I tried a tad of it & found that it tasted quite good, the chicken was quite nice. I liked their side of nachos as well.
Fish & Chips ($12)
I must admit that I’m not one for naanwiches, which led me to order Fish & Chips instead.
This was pretty alright, unfortunately, nothing fancy or special. It’s not beer battered even. Pretty decent for Fish & Chips though.
Strawberry Pistachio Rose Tart ($6)
Now their desserts are basically the whole reason I wanted to try FIX. Lemme mention again that they are handmade, so you won’t find these desserts elsewhere.
I just adored the tart, it tasted fantastic with hints of pistachio. The quantity of strawberries on top was superb as well & the whole presentation of the tart made it one of the most photogenic desserts you can find here. (Yay for Instagram.)
Cacao Barry Chocolate Truffle Cake ($7)
To be honest, I actually wanted to try EVERY dessert they had to offer, however, my friend brought me & my stomach back down to reality.
This was one of the desserts that my friend chose, since he was a huge lover of all things chocolate. (Girls, he’s single.) He found this extremely delicious & was happy with his choice. Hey, whenever you combine chocolate + truffle, the equation is usually = Heaven.
Butterscotch Arabica Choux ($6)
Another popular & photogenic dessert from FIX. This was great as well, awesome butterscotch filling inside. Not for people who have a sensitivity to sweet stuff. The cream on top the choux was fantastic.
Donuts with Salted Egg Dip ($7)
Now THIS, this was one of the things that had me looking forward to trying. Unfortunately, it failed to impress & ended up a huge let down. Perhaps it was because I built it up way too much in my head that it couldn’t satisfy my expectations when I finally tried it.
Perhaps the reasons I was disappointed by this, was due to the fact that I already had one of the best mini-doughnuts ever over at Sin Lee Foods. Not to mention that Five & Dime‘s Salted Egg Lava Cake blew me away. Hence, I basically expected these donuts to be a combination of those two dishes but it wasn’t.
(Of course, there are quite a few people who raved about these, so perhaps it’s just my personal taste. Check it out for yourself!)

Worth A Visit/Revisit?
FIX is definitely worth checking out. I really like how most of their food is handmade, a breath of fresh air after visiting so many cafes that make use of suppliers. Their desserts are noteworthy, not to mention extremely photogenic for photo-ops. Prices here are really wallet-friendly as well, you don’t need to worry about spending much for a good brunch. Atmosphere’s pretty nice, when there’s less of a crowd. Do head over to FIX if you have not yet!
