Rabbit Owl Depot @ 420 North Bridge Road

Rabbit Owl Depot is one of the latest additions to the ever-growing range of ice-cream parlours here in Singapore. The quaint little store is situated right opposite the National Library & was opened by a couple, Joseph and Alena. The name of their parlour derived from the nicknames they gave one another, both which have a relation to an owl & a rabbit respectively. The place offers handcrafted ice-cream & waffles that resemble snowflakes.

Aesthetic
The interior of the ice-cream parlour has a very clean & crisp look. The place is lightly decorated with hints of owls & rabbits here and there. The place is furnished with industrial-style chairs, some made from wooden pieces wrapped together, some made with brass pipe supports. The colours of the place are all very earthy & neutral, which blends together nicely. The bright yellow of the counter area draws you towards it like a moth to a flame, attracting your eyes towards the marvellous ice-cream. The space of the place has been planned well, maximising the limited area without leaving you feeling cramped or squished.

Places like these make fantastic spots to chill & hang out for hours on end. (Of course, justify your stay by ordering more ice-cream!)

Awwww.... shucks. That's so kind of you to say.

Food
What I like about Rabbit Owl Depot is that they seem to encompass this quality of “Stick to what you know best.” It’s because of this, that the ice-cream parlour only offers their range of ice-creams, their iconic snowflake waffles & some drinks. It’s refreshing to find a place that doesn’t try to overwhelm themselves by having extensive food choices, only for them to turn out subpar. Rabbit Owl is probably most well-known for their photogenic snowflake waffles, a must to try for anyone visiting the place. The ice-cream here are prepared by the couple themselves, ensuring that only “real” & fresh ingredients are used for their smooth yet velvety textured flavours.

Prices are fairly low here, one of the lower priced ice-cream parlours. No GST or service fees either!

Snowflake Waffles + Ice-Cream ($9.50) With Coconut Ice-cream Rabbit Owl's snowflake waffles tasted as good as they looked. There was a slight maple flavor in the batter which I adored. A slight crisp on the outside, with a soft but firm texture on the inside. I paired Coconut ice-cream with the waffles, which was one of their popular flavors & it was just divine.

Snowflake Waffles + Ice-Cream ($9.50 + additional $3 for another scoop) With Minty Chocolate & Sea Salt Caramel My friend had this and he loved both choices of ice-cream as well. I managed to try the Sea Salt Caramel ice-cream & I agreed that it was delicious. (Though I'm at that point where anything caramel sickens me.) The waffles were really fantastic as the quantity was just nice, without pushing you overboard. The slight dusting of sugar was a perfect complement, bringing out the essence of "Snowflakes".

Ice-Cream Platter ($9) Earl Grey, Happy Pistachio & Roasted Black Sesame Being my normal foodie self, I originally wanted to add FOUR scoops of ice-cream onto a waffle. Alena recommended that I get the ice-cream platter instead, since four scoops was probably too much to put onto the waffles. Having seen their pistachio & black sesame flavors on Instagram, I decided to order those two. I chose Earl Grey for the last flavor as I'm currently in sort of an "Earl Grey" phase. All three ice-creams looked fantastic beside one another, with neutral pastel colours & two love letters at the side. The flavors for all three were awesome as well. My friend commented that the Earl Grey kinda had a similar taste to Matcha, perhaps due to both being more tea-flavors.

"Hoot, hoot." The ice-cream here are definitely all very well done, with smooth textures & wonderfully created flavours. There is a certain quality to the ice-cream here that makes me want to head back just for it.

(Though you have to make sure to quickly finish the ice-cream before it melts all over.)

Worth A Visit/Revisit?
If you are an ice-cream connoisseur like me, Rabbit Owl Depot is a place that you would not want to miss. The ice-cream here are all very well done, with smooth yet velvety textures & strong flavors. The waffles here are also fantastic & stands out from the endless range of waffles out there. The vibes here are wonderful & relaxing, with indie covers playing throughout the parlour, making Rabbit Owl a great place to chill out with friends.
