Teddy & Me is a recently opened cafe at Marina Square Shopping Mall. The place took over what was Andersen’s & has been transformed into a cafe that revolves around the famous character, Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson). Both the real-life & animated versions of Mr. Bean are used for the designs of the place, including Teddy. Teddy & Me mainly offers desserts; ice-cream, sundaes & cakes.
The cafe has been designed around the character Mr. Bean, using the iconic British flag colours & English-style furniture. These include a trunk table & lounge sofa that has the colours of the British flag, not to mention a few white chandeliers hanging above the ceiling. Mr. Bean’s iconic wallpaper is seen on a few columns around the place, coupled with chequered flooring. It’s all very British, all very English, something you’ll probably fancy if you don’t have a chance to travel to England.
Pictures of Mr. Bean himself are strewn all over the place, including the animated characters from the cartoon series. A few Teddys here & there and even a few toy replicas of Mr. Bean’s famous green Mini. The place is definitely geared towards kids & families.
I’m starting to find that newly started cafes like these in shopping malls seem to lack in quality relating to service. (Is it because they just started? Who knows.) Anyway, I found that Teddy & Me had really horrible service. The queue was confusing, with people just queuing anywhere they liked. The ordering system was lacking; there was supposed to be an iPad system in place, however it was not executed properly. Half of the tables in the place didn’t even have iPads. The ordering app on the device also seemed non-existent, with 3/4 of the items on it unavailable. Customers just resorted to the physical menu and ordered at the counter instead.
This led to a pretty long & slow moving queue, as 1/2 of the people in the queue were just ordering takeaway ice-cream vs. those that were dining in. Hopefully once the iPad ordering system is properly executed, the service would get better.
As mentioned earlier, Teddy & Me specializes in desserts. The majority of their menu is for ice-cream, sundaes & cakes. They also offer some waffles & even a small savoury menu of sandwiches & pastas. During my visit, the savoury menu was basically unavailable, the only one available was the Bolognese, which did not look appetizing. (More for kids?) I would recommend you try their Mille Crepes & ice-cream, which is what they are more focused on. Only four Mille Crepe Cakes flavours were available during my visit, with one flavour not in the menu.
Price-wise, it’s mostly pretty average. Some items are definitely priced higher, like their Mille Crepe Cakes. Do remember it’s a cafe in a shopping mall after all, prices for places like these are pretty generic.
Worth A Visit/Revisit?
Overall, the branding of Teddy & Me works & it is their strongest selling point. (Probably the only selling point.) Most of the people who visit the cafe, are here for the novelty; most of which are families with kids. The food here is mediocre at best & also slightly overpriced. (From what I spent during my visit, I could probably get two mains & a dessert at a better cafe.) As usual, I do hope they will improve in the future. My friend was planning on bringing his clique to this place, but after checking it out, he changed his mind. Go for the novelty, that is currently all it has.
