One Man Coffee is a laid-back cafe that is newly opened in the Upper Thomson area. The place shares the same space as Crust Pizza, with One Man Coffee operating in the day and Crust Pizza at night. One Man Coffee specializes in coffee and focuses on the art of espresso while also serving all-day brunch items & light bites.

Aesthetic
As said earlier, One Man Coffee actually shares the space with Crust Pizza. The place actually has two entrances, one at the front of the shop and one at the side. The decor of One Man Coffee commands a very old-school-like style. Wooden seats & tables fill the place. Exposed ceilings, vintage hanging light bulbs and unfinished walls & floors add to the old-school look. One Man Coffee’s counter is situated on the side of the interior, with Crust’s counter taking up the back of the place. There are seats on the outside as well, with suspended egg chairs for customers to chill out alfresco style.

Food
One Man Coffee serves up all-day brunch dishes. Their menu isn’t as extensive as other cafes, such as the nearby Habitat Coffee, but they make up for it with affordable yet good quality light brunch offerings. Most of their dishes revolve around carbs, like croissants, sandwiches & toast. So though their food menu is small, you can get quite full from their dishes. Though they specialize in coffee, they also offer quite a selection of tea as well.

All of One Man Coffee’s dishes don’t go over the 12 dollar price point, which makes the place quite wallet-friendly. They don’t charge GST or service charge as well, so yet another bonus.

Hot Chocolate ($5) This was not half bad, nice velvet chocolaty flavor. I usually opt for hot chocolate as I'm not really a coffee person.

Iced Mocha ($6.50) With chocolate syrup My companion ordered this and she said that it was pretty good. One Man Coffee's coffee has garnered quite some positive reviews.

Gashouse Egg with Bacon Jam ($10) "Egg-In-The-Bread-With-The-Hole-In-The-Middle" This used be to nicknamed "Toad in the Hole". As said in the description, it's basically bread with an egg in a hole in the middle.

Annnnnnnd this is what you get when it's cut opened! A nice runny egg yolk flows out. This tasted pretty good. It is quite simple but very nice. The bacon jam was sweet.

Big Brekkie ($12) 2x6 Minute Eggs, Honey Ham, Roasted Cherry Tomatoes, Baby Spinach with Pesto, Grilled Sourdough Rye This was quite interesting, it was like a different take on Eggs Benedict. Of course, it's not Eggs Benedict at all (no poached eggs) but I kinda liken the dish to Eggs Benny. This was also pretty good. I loved the cherry tomatoes, one of the sweetest I've ever had. The eggs were good as well. I did find the sourdough to be quite hard in texture though.

Brioche French Toast ($10) Homemade Berry Compote, Candied Walnuts, Fresh Cream This is THE thing to order whenever someone visits One Man Coffee. It was a special a while ago but has since made it's way to a permanent spot on the menu. Like I've mentioned in my past reviews, French Toast seems to be the up-and-coming brunch item currently. One Man Coffee's version proves that it's here to stay. The brioche tastes delicious with the fresh cream & berry compote. The candied walnuts add a nice slight crunch to the soft brioche.

Salted Caramel Danish ($4.50) I bought home one of their pastries that were displayed in their cabinet. This was pretty alright. the filling in the middle tasted more like hazelnut. [I'm unsure whether their pastries are made in-house or from a supplier. I'll put my money on supplier though.]

Worth A Visit/Revisit?
One Man Coffee is a nice little unpretentious cafe that serves good brunch dishes. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re ever looking to cafehop or want a nice place for brunch without breaking the bank. You can even head over to the nearby ice-cream parlours or waffle places for more dessert if you’re feeling peckish.
