The Tiramisu Hero is a whimsical cafe situated along the up-and-coming area of Jalan Besar. True to it’s name, The Tiramisu Hero specializes in tiramisu. The Tiramisu Hero actually started out as an online bakery by partners, Aileen & Peggy, before moving to a permanent residence in one of the shop houses opposite Jalan Besar Stadium. The owners both came together with a dream of starting their own cafe, and chose the main dessert of Tiramisu as it’s their personal favourite.

Aesthetic
The interior decor of The Tiramisu Hero is very clean cut. With concrete floors & walls and white ladders used as decor. Great wall wash lightings. They even have a few knick-knacks placed at the front of the store that are both decor & also for sale. Some jewellery are also for sale. More seats are outside, with faux grass on the floor. It’s a great look, one you definitely won’t miss when walking by.

Now the main star of The Tiramisu Hero is a masked Roman street cat, named “Sir Antonio”. Illustrations of Sir Antonio are decorated on the walls and menus. They even have a giant Sir Antonio head that you can take photos with. What I like about it is that it gives the cafe a certain type of identity, by having a familiar mascot representing the brand.

"Now, hush." There it is. A giant head of Sir Antonio. It's hollow and big enough, so you can fit your head inside for an obligatory photo.

Food
Contrary to their name, The Tiramisu Hero also serves an all-day savoury menu. You can have a look at more of what they offer on their menu here. The food that they offer here are quite interesting, ranging from baked rice to pasta. They also serve other desserts besides tiramisu, such as waffles or lava cake. Prices for The Tiramisu Hero are all pretty average for cafes, their mains are all above 10 bucks. I was a tad disappointed, as I went there to try one of their items after seeing it in reviews, the “Truffle Eggs Bacon Roll”, and they were unavailable that day.

Of course, by visiting The Tiramisu Hero, one must definitely try their tiramisu. Their tiramisu comes in all sorts of sizes, suitable for the number of people in your party. The main common size they serve is the “Mommahero” which is suitable for one person. This is the only size that has different flavors, as shown above. What’s great about them is that they come in cute little jars with a sticker of Sir Antonio on them.

Crème Brûlée Latte ($6.50) When it was served, it had a great crème brûlée fragrance. Unfortunately, the taste was a bit lacking. Not bad anyhow.

Bangers with Mac & Cheese ($17) Chicken & Cheese, Pork, Spicy Pork sausages. You can choose to have them with Mash ($15) instead. I'm never been much of a fan of Mac & Cheese, especially since all the ones that I've tried were awful. I decided to give Hero's version a try and I'm really glad I did. Hands down, the best Mac & Cheese I've ever had. The sausages were really good as well. You can even get the Mac & Cheese on its own for $8.90.

Aglio Olio ($14.90) Angel Hair Pasta, Prawns, Bacon, Extra Virgin Olive Oil This was pretty good as well. One of the better Aglio's I've tried. Nice presentation too.

MommaHero ($7.50 each) Strawberry, Matcha Now, THE obvious thing to eat at Hero. Tiramisu in a jar. Their tiramisu comes in all sorts of flavors, from Milo to Oreo to Lemon Lavender. They are all pretty good, though not the best tiramisu I've had. The ladyfingers inside were a little dry. The different flavored mascarpone cheese tasted great though. My companion also made a good observation. She wondered whether these could actually be consider "Tiramisu", as they were just mascarpone cheese with ladyfingers in a jar. And unless you get the Original, there doesn't seem to be any use of coffee or rum in the other flavors. I'll leave it up to you to judge for yourself though.

MommaHero ($7.50 each) Lemon Lavender, Original You can also buy their tiramisu in a jar home. I think it's much better as you can get to keep the cute jars. I do think that it's a great concept of having many different flavor variations of the tiramisu in a jar.

Worth A Visit/Revisit?
Overall, I think that The Tiramisu Hero has a fantastic concept, both with their tiramisu and Sir Antonio. It’s definitely a great cafe to check out & to chill, to have a jar of tiramisu and enjoy the day. The cafe has great decor and it seems really well-established even though they just opened last year. (Unlike some other cafes that are still trying to get on their feet.) If tiramisus doesn’t interest you, perhaps you can head on down to Windowsill Pies, just down the street.  I do quite like their food though, and I’ll love to make a revisit. (Especially to try the “Truffle Eggs Bacon Roll” that was unavailable during my visit.)
