Fluff Bakery is a little halal bakery that specialises in cupcakes along Jalan Pisang, near Haji Lane. Fluff Bakery was founded by Ms. Nursyazanna Syaira Mohd Suhimi, who started baking as a hobby. Fluff Bakery’s popularity soon started to soar after the start of their Instagram account, which amassed so many fans that Fluff Bakery finally opened a physcial store at Jalan Pisang. Fluff Bakery’s cupcakes are so popular that they are constantly sold out daily.
Fluff Bakery opens at 12pm till all bakes sell out. I got there around 11.45am and that was the queue. Horrendous! I’ve queued for donuts & ice-cream but this is the first for cupcakes. I would recommend that you go during the weekdays. (I went on a Sunday, probably one of the worst days) The cupcakes are extremely popular with the Malay community as it is one of the few Halal bakeries in Singapore. While in the queue, the staff will distribute a number to you. As long as you have a number, you can purchase up to a dozen cupcakes. This is to limit the number of cupcakes one person can buy.
Fluff Bakery’s decor is kept very minimal and simple. The store is only for customers to purchase their cupcakes for takeaway, so the interior is only lightly decorated. White walls give the bakery a very clean look, with dried flowers & little shades of pastel decor placed on the shelves. A few pop-art artwork are hung around, making the place feel quite hip and youthful. What’s nice about Fluff is that they display their cupcakes on specialized stands instead of the boring trays or display cases.
What makes Fluff Bakery’s cupcakes stand out from the rest is that each cupcake is cored by hand & then piped with a filling. Ms. Nursyazanna mentioned that she was bored with cupcakes that ended up with too much cake in the end, and wanted to make her cupcakes stand out, by having delicious fillings in the middle. This also keeps the cupcakes moist on the inside. The cupcake menu changes every week, with more interesting & innovative flavors each week. What makes Fluff’s cupcakes so popular is the fact that some flavors are kept to the local palette. One such flavor is the “Ondeh Ondeh”, a traditional Malaysian pastry with a liquid filling in the middle. Each cupcake cost $4, which is a tad higher than other cupcake stores, but are due to their high quality ingredients used & each being painstakingly hand-made.
Worth A Visit/Revisit?
Fluff Bakery is a definite MUST to visit. Their popularity is ever-growing, with long queues and cupcakes that can sell out within the hour. At first I kept wondering what’s so special about them, but once you tried one of Fluff’s cupcakes, you will understand why. Fluff’s cupcakes is definitely in my top two, behind Swirls (review soon). Their unique yet local flavors, along with their fillings, make their cupcakes one of the very best in Singapore. You won’t regret queuing for these cupcakes, their constant selling out attests to this fact.. I would love to try their other different cupcake flavors soon. (Just not that keen on queuing again! But it’s definitely worth it, highly recommended.)
