Cafe by day, restaurant bar by night, Symmetry is one of the best places in Singapore for a weekend brunch. The place is always packed on the weekends and you will probably need to wait for at least half an hour before you get a table. Nestled at the end of one of the shop houses along Jalan Kubor, near Haji Lane, Symmetry manages to constantly draw a crowd, rain or shine.
The whole interior of Symmetry has a very raw industrial look to it. Raw wooden elements are used, crates & boxes hanging on the ceiling from an unstable looking wooden palate. Wires are exposed and the style of the lights & lamps make you feel as if you are inside a tunnel. The place itself is also very dark inside even with some windows allowing Sunlight in. The interior is not big at all, so expect things to get uncomfortable during peak hours, especially from the amount of people they let in. Felt like it could be a fire hazard.
Once you’ve had Symmetry’s food, you can stop wondering why it constantly draws the crowd. The food, which is a mix of Australian casual dining culture with French cuisine, are all very well done. You can tell the food have been very well thought out and crafted by the chefs. One downside unfortunately is that Symmetry’s food has one of the higher paying prices in Singapore. $16 for Mushroom Soup? I’m tempted to try it because of its presentation, but the price is enough to leave some people gawking. Anyone looking for a cheap brunch, this is not the place for you.
Worth A Visit/Revisit?
Definitely a place worth a visit. Though more towards the pricier side of things, Symmetry’s food is fantastic. I’m still looking forward to go back for another brunch and maybe even dinner (They have a totally different menu for dinner.).
